The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) partnered with Ayala Land, Inc. for the development of a new substation at the Vermosa estate in Imus, Cavite, in line with both firms’ commitment to ensure delivery of reliable electricity service within the area.
Meralco recently started the construction of the 115 kV-34.5kV substation which will be located within Vermosa, a 725-hectare mixed use development located along Daang Hari Road.
The substation will house three transformer banks, each capable of generating 83 megavolt amperes (MVA) of power or a combined capacity of 249 MVA.
“For several years, we have worked hand in hand with Meralco in the master planning of our estates, offering key utilities to residents, locators and visitors. Now, we are building towards making Vermosa move-in ready with its own Meralco Substation.” said Vermosa Estate Head Jay Teodoro.
Slated for full operations by December 2022, the substation will provide adequate capacity to accommodate new and additional load applications in the area. This will guarantee a smooth flow of electricity for Vermosa dwellers, whether from residential customers or the commercial and industrial accounts, catering to the retail, sports and leisure and office markets.
In addition, having the substation will guarantee operational switching flexibility during contingencies and improve voltage regulation for Vermosa’s commercial and institutional locators such as De La Salle Zobel Campus, as well as peripheral developments within Imus, Cavite.
“This project is part of Meralco’s thrust to serve its customers, more so in planning all facilities requirements, which we can ramp up and forecast according to projected turn over, during the master planning stages. This is a critical step to enhance the delivery of electricity services and ensure reliable power across all end users,” said Ferdinand O. Geluz, Meralco FVP and Head of Customer Retail Services.
For his part, Meralco SVP and Head of Networks Ronnie L. Aperocho said: “Meralco encourages developers to work closely with Meralco at the early stages of their planning. We are committed to provide the energy infrastructure to meet the projected growth of new communities, not just for timely energization but to have the right facilities to meet their needs.”
The fourth largest estate of Ayala Land, Vermosa blends suburban charm with the ease of city living. Vermosa is masterplanned to offer fundamental mixed-use components – a wide range of horizontal residential options, a regional mall, a central business district, educational institutions, and leisure establishments that are seamlessly integrated with generous open spaces to allow opportunities for social convergence.
It also houses The Ayala Vermosa Sports Hub, a world-class sports training facility specifically designed for athletes; The Shops at Vermosa, a retail strip along Daang Hari; The Vermosa Food and Lifestyle Market; and De La Salle Zobel Campus-Vermosa. Soon to rise are the Ayala Malls Vermosa; a church with 500-seating capacity; and other commercial developments.
Among the other facilities planned for Vermosa are its central business district, Vermosa Midtown, and four residential developments, namely The Courtyards by Ayala Land Premier, Alveo Ardia, Avida Verra, and Amaia Series Vermosa.
Vermosa is accessible to key urban centers and through various road networks – Daang Hari, SLEX through the MCX exit and CALAX, making it a potential growth center in the South.
