MGEN’s Rubio, in his keynote message, highlighted One Meralco’s contribution to energy security, and the plans through which the power generation unit of Meralco aims to achieve a sustainable future through a low-carbon energy transition. Core to the group’s long-term sustainability strategy are twin commitments to secure 1,500 MW of renewable energy and to develop 1,500 MW of attributable green energy generation capacity. Through MGEN Renewable Energy, Inc. (MGREEN), MGEN plans to accelerate development of solar projects including Terra Solar, which is envisioned to be the world's largest single-site solar farm with battery energy storage system.
“These efforts are supported by the unwavering commitment of MGEN and Meralco to guaranteeing energy security and sustainability. Through strategic partnerships, innovative solutions, and forward-thinking initiatives, MGEN and Meralco are dedicated to shaping a future where reliable and sustainable energy is accessible to all,” Rubio said.

Meralco’s Pangilinan also reiterated the immediate need to boost available supply in the country, which undeniably plays a crucial role in supporting sustainable economic development.
“The margin of available and dependable supply in this country over the demand is very thin. We have to build more plants, whether conventional or renewable. We have to gain more capacity,” he emphasized.
For their part, the European diplomats shared insights on the successful implementation of renewable energy initiatives in their respective countries and how the Philippine energy industry can adopt these strategies and integrate technologies to alleviate power supply issues.
“By sharing best practices and fostering collaboration, we’re actively creating and enabling an environment for renewable energy initiatives and investments. This spirit of partnership overcomes the multisectoral challenges we face in achieving our shared objectives,” ECCP’s Webster concluded.
