The power company bagged nine Stevies in total, including one gold for "Best Annual Report" with 'Power On: Meralco 2020 Annual Report.'
If there’s one thing customers can rely on, it’s the fact that Meralco adheres to international standards of transparency—from its electrification, livelihood, sustainability, and education programs to its communications campaigns. This commitment was recently validated by an international award-giving body and a jury of business and communications experts.
Meralco won three golds, three silvers, and three bronzes at the 2021 Stevie International Business Awards, an annual awards program that recognizes the professional achievements and positive contributions of top utilities and corporations. This year alone, there were more than 3,700 nominations submitted by organizations from 65 nations.
Meralco’s trophy haul makes it the winningest Philippine utility.
According to Meralco President and CEO Atty. Ray C. Espinosa,
Here’s a recap of the programs, reports, and initiatives that helped Meralco achieve success in this year’s Stevie International Business Awards:
Maintaining transparency
Awarded gold for “Best Annual Report” among utilities was the Power On: Meralco 2020 Annual Report, while the Live Life: Meralco 2020 Sustainability Report landed a silver. Judges cited both reports for being transparent, providing text and illustrations for “a clean, concise presentation, with a human touch and lightness.” View the Meralco 2020 Reports here.
'Live Life' presents Meralco's efforts on sustainability, which the company promises to embed at the core of its business.
Giving back
Also winning gold was the One Meralco Foundation (OMF) program One for Trees: Helping Farmers Survive the Pandemic Through Sustainable Reforestation. The program led to the plantation of 87,271 trees during the pandemic alone—an impressive feat that will help sustain our local forests for years to come.
Two other OMF programs bagged silver awards: the Household Electrification Program, which won in the PR Campaign of the Year – CSR Category with its entry titled “Powering-up Communities Amidst the Pandemic,” and Energizing off-grid Island and Mountain Schools from Far-Flung Communities in the Philippines.
Meralco’s social development arm was also awarded bronze for Teacher Frontliner: A Back-to-School Program to support Filipino Teachers as frontliners during the Pandemic. Through this program, OMF paved the way for off-grid schools to continue operations and to protect their frontliners at a time when resources and essentials were scarce.

Also taking home bronzes were two proactive Meralco customer communications programs that keep customers informed: Meralco Advisory, which was cited in the category “Brand Renovation” after it was reinvented in 2021 with a more digital feel, and the Meralco Facebook page, which was the 24/7 source of Meralco-related news and information during the pandemic. These initiatives were commended for being “clear and forceful in its messaging.”

Meralco’s third gold belonged to MVP: The Man and His Art, A Visual Inventory of Filipino Artistry Gracing the Halls of Philippines’ Major Companies. The book showcases Filipino artistry within the halls of Meralco, PLDT, First Pacific, and Meralco Chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan’s own residence. A brainchild of Meralco President and CEO Atty. Ray C. Espinosa and penned by renowned writer Cid Reyes, it was cited by judges for documenting and preserving Filipino art and culture in a book that was “exceptional in writing, design, photography, and sophisticated and elegant in execution.”
Artworks from celebrated Filipino artists like Benedict "BenCab" Cabrera and Fernando Amorsolo are featured in this book.
